Cruise 2014

Alex and I celebrated my graduation with a cruise to the western Caribbean this summer! It's taken a long time to get all the pictures compiled, but here they finally are!

We left from Galveston (a perk of living in Texas). It was really nice to relax and enjoy both of us being done with school. We had three days at sea, and three days in port.

The ship had a lot of great activities for the sea days. I'd never been on Carnival before and I was pretty impressed with all they had to offer. Our favorite thing was probably the water slides. The pools and lounge chairs were always packed, but the water slide line was never that long. And thanks to the slides we discovered the adults only lounge area that was never full and had padded lounge chairs and hammocks. Score! There was also a ropes course on the top of the ship that Alex was really excited about. I have issues with heights, but I made it through and was pretty proud of myself. Alex usually participated in some sort of sports challenge each sea day, while I went to art shows and auctions. It was nbd, but I won a free painting twice! We also happened to win a game of Disney music trivia with a perfect score and got medals. I was more proud of that than any good score I got on a grad school test.

Our first port was Roatan, Honduras. We went zip lining through the canopy and loved it. Later we relaxed at the beach in Mahogany Bay.

Our second port was Belize City, Belize. We went snorkeling on the barrier reef, and traveled by boat to a tiny little island in the middle of the ocean to do so. The snorkeling was okay, but not great, as it was a very overcast day, but we still had a great time. Later we went to the mainland and found a flea market where we bought dried plantains and a hand carved Mayan calendar.

Our last port was Cozumel, Mexico. We went to this great place called Uvas beach where we got to snorkel on the barrier reef with amazing weather and go kayaking in a clear kayak. This day was probably our favorite because the weather was so perfect and the activities so fun! They also gave us fresh fruit and a drink of our choice. Alex and I had been going without soda for six months before our cruise and we were super excited to have some again! After our day at the beach we were wandering through the shops in the port and found a man who paints beautiful landscapes with his fingers. We thought it was so cool we decided to get one and asked him to re-create the landscape from our beach trip.

The 4th of July happened to be during our cruise, and we spent the day in Mexico. The 4th is one of my favorite holidays, and while we had an amazing day, I was feeling a little un-patriotic and missing America. So for dinner that night we ordered burgers, fries, and apple pie.

Cruises are the best.
